If you’re like 80% of the population, you’re researching online before making a purchase. So if you’re looking for a Tarot reading, it’s no surprise that you’re trying to get the best bang for your buck. I do the same thing!

Here’s something to think about though: when you buy your phone at least you’re offered a warranty. With a Tarot reading, there are no guarantees. So I’m going to give you some guidance and recommendations for how to choose the best Tarot reader for you.

When you purchase a Tarot reading you’re buying into a relational experience that leaves you in charge of your future.

Mistrust is Expensive

When searching for the best Tarot reader, I imagine you probably start off looking for a decent price. We all love a good deal. But a Tarot reading is a whole other kinda purchase.

If you’re going to invest in yourself by going to a Tarot reader, find out what you’re getting for the price you’re being charged. Is it an allotment of time? Is there some sort of take away like an email, a recording, or a handout? I think of getting a reading as an investment in self. But sometimes you may find there’s a little something extra that makes you feel more confident about your purchase.

When you’re looking for a Tarot reader, you should be looking for the best Tarot reader for you. You probably start looking for a decent price. We all love a good deal. • Are you only paying for the reader’s time & expertise?
  • Is there some sort of take away like an email, a recording, or a handout?

Sometimes you may find there’s a little something extra that makes you feel more confident about your purchase.

Trusting Your Reader

You may not have realized that you’re looking for someone who you can trust. The best Tarot reader for you should be someone you can trust, don’t you think? Trust is built on experience and interaction.

So I would ask the Tarot reader (yes, contact me, I would love to talk to you) you’re thinking of working with if there’s a way for you to see them do their thing ahead of your purchase. So many readers today can be found on YouTube, Periscope, Facebook, and Instagram that it’s hard to not get a sense for who someone is and how they work. You may also want to read a few blog posts if they have them. But nothing surpasses that live interaction when you can get it.

Invest in yourself by going to a Tarot reader.

Now I know you’re looking to avoid a scam artist. The best way to do that is to have the interaction I described above.  You may also want to look for testimonials, find feedback on social media, and ask some questions like you might find on my post about 10 Questions to Get to Know Your Tarot Reader.

I imagine you might also have a concern that a Tarot reader will be reading your tells/body language. If the reader is human, it could be possible. I know I will certainly be aware of your reaction to what I say. The best Tarot reader will explore your reaction related to their statement and your question rather than allow it to inform the reading in an unprofessional way.

The Personal Stuff

I’ve lost count of the times that someone told me they didn’t want a reading because they felt they would be told something they didn’t want to hear (like death or divorce). I’ve recently become aware of one reader – one – who predicts death. She’s doing it because no one else is. To me it’s an attention grabber. I mean, I checked out her stuff because I was curious.

Most readers, including myself, want to help you live your life to its fullest.  And death is not a part of that equation. As you learn more about a reader, look for your feelings to be positive & uplifting, your thoughts to be forward thinking, and your attitude to be about what you can achieve.

Most readers, including myself, want to help you live your life to its fullest.

Do you ever feel like your question is too personal? That may put you off getting a reading. But remember, the best Tarot reader is a person too. We’ve all got our stuff to deal with. And empathy is a powerful tool.

And the children’s book was right, everybody poops. If it’s helpful to create more comfort, you may look for a reader that mirrors your age, experience, gender, sexuality, etc. Or you may look for one that is the exact opposite! Think about finding a reader like building a support team around yourself. Do you need someone who thinks like you or not like you at all? The most important thing is that you feel at ease when asking your questions. If you’re not able to provide a clear question or direction then it’s likely your reader is going to struggle with helping you. (Find out more about asking the best questions).

I’ve been asked questions about what seem to be impossible personal choices, questions that influence a child’s upbringing, if a woman should have her tubes tied, and if someone’s husband was their best partner (they weren’t sexually compatible. It was a very frank conversation). I’ve discussed polyamory, open relationships, fetishes, transgender journeys, and toxic mothers. When you’re looking for a reader that fits you, you may want to think about the qualities you see in a best friend. Or maybe you need a reader that provides a glass of wine at each session.

Is Certification Required?

Tarot certification is always a hot topic in the Tarot community. There is currently no national or international governing board that regulates the Tarot industry. It’s such a personal journey with varied approach that creating a governance system over the art of Tarot reading and the humanity involved would be impossible (in my view).

There are Tarot certificates out there that readers with education programs have provided. Their value is only as good as the reader who provided the certification.  So now you have double the research to do. You’ll need to research the certificate provider as well as the reader you’re investigating. So if you’re looking for a certified tarot reader before you’re looking for personality and approach, you may be in for a disappointment. Especially if your personalities clash. No certificate in the world can help you get along.

Personality & Experience Are Trump Cards

Speaking of, how do you even get to know someone’s personality before purchasing a reading? Just like you do for anything else. Read their website. Check out their blog. Look for video and watch some of them. Cyberstalk the reader!

If you search for â€œTarot Readings” or just â€œTarot” on any social media platform you’re going to find an abundance of readers.  The newbies will be reading out of a little white book. They’re probably reading for free and/or donations. The experienced will not be reading out of a book and may be providing general insight and possibly asking for “love donations.” I look for the readers who are not using the book and are providing more than generalities with a heightened skill level.

By skill level I mean I look for specific connections between the reader and me. For example, I was performing a reading for someone who was trying to improve her business. She had recently lost her former finance and he had been of great support to the practice before it was a business. Numerically, the cards drawn were 4 & 3. We discussed tasks that she should do to improve the business. I was also confirming steps he’d outlined before passing and then I referenced a journal she’d kept of his teaching that we hadn’t discussed (specific confirmation). She later told me that before he passed, any time she saw those numbers together he told her that it meant he loved her (another confirmation).

If you don’t get enough of a sense about who I am from checking out my FAQs, watching past videos on YouTube or Periscope and other pages, send me an email about your concerns or comment below. I’d love to know what could help you narrow down the best Tarot reader for you. I may even have someone to refer you to if we’re not meant to work together.

One thing I think most people don’t know to look for when choosing a Tarot reader is a code of ethics. Any professional reader will have these. They may not always be visible, but they should be accessible if you ask. In a field that could be ripe with scam artists, our ethics are what set us apart.

I give you permission to not finish crappy chocolate.

You might even ask if you can get a sample reading. I have an opportunity for anyone to get a quickie reading for a small donation on Friday evenings via Periscope at 6p CST. I’d prefer you to take a bite of the chocolate and put it back in the box than be forced to eat the whole thing, you know? I always hated those maple chocolates in the yellow boxes. I give you permission to not finish crappy chocolate.

What Else Should you consider For The Best Tarot Reader?

Does gender matter?I’m a guy. Most people immediately think of Tarot readers as women. (Thanks Hollywood!) I’ve noticed that clients tend to ask me less relationship questions and more business advice. Thought I certainly get both. Which seems to be (over-archingly) the exact opposite for my female counterparts.

Does sexuality matter?I’m an out gay guy. Being gay provides a different perspective on my readings. Especially when I’m reading for members of the LGBTQ community. It’s freeing to hear your preferred pronouns in reference to yourself or your partner a safe space. And shared experience of the gay community is a real thing. And all you allies out there, I got your back too.

Does mindset matter?Professionally, I’m a project manager. That type of mindset informs my readings and the follow up I offer. I’m not fluffy fairies. There are some readers who are adept at talking through how your chakras need to be recharged and your aura is weak. This is not me. I have great respect for those aspects of our combined spiritual work. But it’s not me. My readings tend to be pragmatic, practical, confirming, and outlining your next steps.

What’s the experience you’re looking for? When you choose the best Tarot reader for yourself, you’ll want to decide what kind of experience you want. Do you want to focus on energy work and have a Reiki treatment? Do you want to speak to someone who is overly polite with a kind word around every corner? Or do you want plain conversation with someone who’s probably going to through â€œfuck” into the conversation at some point? Readers are as varied as our clients. Determine where your comfort level lies and you’ll be well on your way to finding the best Tarot reader for you.

I want to confirm where you are today and give you the steps you need to achieve your goals tomorrow so that you’re moving your life forward and achieving your goals and dreams.

Choosing the right tarot reader means you’ll have someone in your corner who you can trust. Someone objective/neutral that can see your current problem and provide clarity and next steps for you to implement.

So if you want to move your life forward and achieve your dreams, start by checking out my FAQs, About Me page, and follow me on Periscope.
